I am going to be seven years old the day after Christmas. This is the first time that I will ever have a real Christmas tree and a real birthday party, too! You see, Santa (I am sure you already know) but my mom has never really had enough money to buy a Christmas tree and I do not know where my dad is. He left when I was two. She used to make me things for my birthday but last year she was not able to give me anything. I did not cry in front of her ‘cause I know she would have if she could have. But Santa, I will tell you but please do not tell mom; I did cry when she was not looking. Last year mom lost her job and has had trouble finding a new one. We lost our place to live and it has really been bad ‘cause we have had to move from place to place and even had to sleep on the ground under a bridge sometimes. It was so dark, Santa, and so scary. Then one day when we were trying to find something to eat, a man told my mom to call Hope House to see if they could help us. He was hungry, too, but he was nice enough to help us and gave me part of his cracker. Mom called but Hope House did not have any beds open but was put on their wait list. Two days later, mom called back to check and the lady was so nice mom said. Hope House moved some things around and made room for us to go there. Everything is so different now. I mean everyone is so kind and I love, love the children’s center. I have so much fun and have met new people. I am actually in school now and am so happy. Mom is now working and making money and we are saving to get our own place. Mom said it would take some time but we are really doing good now. The people at Hope House said I would have a nice birthday party this year—can you believe it, Santa, my own cake with my name on it and everything! I love Hope House ‘cause I just know they saved us just like Jesus does. Please bring the moms and kids at Hope House something nice Santa— and if it is not too much trouble I would really like a baby doll. I have never had one and really want one. Thanks Santa and thanks Hope House for all you do for us. The kids are making you some cookies and we’ll will leave you some milk. I love milk, Santa, and am so thankful Hope House has milk for me, too. Merry Christmas, Santa! Your friend, Abby
