Certification in the Standards for Excellence program is bestowed only to the most well-managed and responsibly governed nonprofit organizations that have demonstrated compliance with 57 specific Standards for Excellence as outlined in the Louisiana Standards for Excellene: An Ethics and Accountability Code for the Nonprofit Sector.

Based on honesty, integrity, fairness, respect, trust, responsibility, and accountability, the codes are premised on eight areas of nonprofit management and governance:
